Join me on a week's painting holiday on the tranquil Greek island of Halki. After a flight to nearby Rhodes, you will be met by a representative of Nissia Holidays and travel by ferry to Halki. From here you will be escorted the short distance to your accommodation close to the waterfront of Emborio, where restored neoclassical villas bathed in Mediterranean hues line the horseshoe-shaped harbour, rising up like an amphitheatre.
Emborio is a magical place. Wander through flower-lined alleyways, past grand villas and tumbledown mansions, enjoying the delicious smells of home cooking wafting from the windows; pull up a chair in one of the tavernas or cafes to feast on local fare, such as Halki’s famed pasta dish; explore the Church of St Nicholas, patron saint of the island; or slip into the shimmering waters to swim amongst the fishing boats.
Breakfast may be taken at your accommodation, or at one of the many nearby cafes.
Each evening we will dine at some of Emborio’s excellent tavernas.
When we are not painting in Emborio, we will leave our accommodation at about 10am each day and travel to a variety of inspiring painting locations, including one day spent at the Panormitis Monastery with its breathtaking views across the Aegean Sea. We will also paint at the abandoned town of Chorio, once the island’s largest settlement, which invites exploration of its atmospheric and crumbling, tumbledown houses.
There will be one free day for people to do as they please; go swimming at one of the island’s beaches, continue painting, or even take a ferry to the deserted, nearby island of Alimia.
The holiday is for painters of all levels of experience. Tuition will be relaxed and informal, and as the group will be small, everyone will receive plenty of individual attention.
